Longtime PDX heroes of abstraction and free musics, Visible Cloaks is found currently spooling spic and sparklin’ tidy compositions of extreme digital synthesis and acoustic marimba. Visible Cloaks is Spencer Doran and Ryan Carlile and they just released a new album on RVNG int. entitled ‘Reassemblage’.
You may be most familiar with Visible Cloaks from their two volumes of Fairlights, Mallets and Bamboo; mixes described as “investigations into Fourth World undercurrents in Japanese ambient and pop music, years 1980 – 1986” and their 2015 cassette on Antwerp label Hare Akedod. In a collaboration with Brenna Murphy of MSHR, their video “Valve” expands into a 3D virtual traversable world, augmented by MIDI input data from the music.”
